SPAR, the leading symbol group in Scotland, is continuing its support of Healthy Living Scotland (HLS) by giving out free fruit to children at a further four stores around the country.
The campaign encourages children to eat more fruit and enjoy a healthier lifestyle which participating SPAR stores have given to children. The joint initiative between SPAR Scotland and HLS highlights the support both organisations offer in promoting healthy options. During 4-10 October, SPAR Scotland distributed free fruit to every primary school child from the SPAR stores in Abronhill, Garthamlock, Thornliebank and Erskine. The team from HLS were also on hand each store to actively promote the week long initiative. Stores in the East of Scotland taking part in the campaign are now being planned in for the beginning of 2022.
In addition to this campaign, SPAR Scotland will be running pumpkin-related activities in three SPAR stores with the team from HLS. The stores participating are Bo’ness, Sanquhar and Eastriggs from 27th, 28th and 29th October. Colin McLean, CEO of SPAR Scotland, said: “We enjoy supporting Healthy Living Scotland’s programme which connects local school children with healthy options available from SPAR convenience stores. It is important that we continue to encourage children to eat fresh fruit and vegetables.” The Healthy Living Programme has been working with convenience retailers since 2004 and highlights the fresh fruit and vegetables and the healthier products available in convenience stores.
The programme is fully funded by the Scottish Government and aims to connect local schools with convenience retailers. So far they have engaged with over 13,000 school children across the country.
